It Is a Weed Theme, True Story! with Honcho Swerver & The Hazy Eyed Smiles

It’s another New Wax Podcast, where we do our best to bring you the best in Independent Music that was sent to us…most of which comes to our twitter account!

Tonight we get yet another tee-shirt idea from Luppy:

“Feeling Good! Feeling Fine! Nothing but New Wax on my mind!”

In the start of tonight’s show we get an update on Living Luppy, and he is almost at his first goal! Way to go Luppy!

Than Joe and Luppy give us an update on their record label, and there is some pretty big news. It seems that Lupped Up Records has a new artist with a new single coming out this month…so stay tuned for that! They also have put a their first “web director on staff, some guy named Carl….hey wait a minute…

Joe also brings us up to date on his Kickstarter project to cover Nine Inch nails “Piggy” and here is a little sample from Soundcloud (I mean if your not listening to the podcast!):

Joe shows his nipples of to the group, why is beyond me…and this leads me to a real question that I would like an answer to from this listeners. Would you be willing to pay a small subscription fee (say $5.00 a month) to see the raw video feed of us recording the show? Please let us know on Twitter, Facebook, or in the comments below!

FINALLY! We talk about the first band of the night Honcho Swerver and the shocking fact that he found “Weed, Money, and B***hes” all in the same place.

While we cover this song Joe joins me on the “language side,” maybe he is getting old too? I know Luppy THINKS he is getting old because he…bought a doormat?

Next up we talk about the Hazy Eyed Smiles. The Hazy Eyed Smiles were formed in February 2011, when Phil Thompson and Pete Lawrence met via a website called join my band. After going through many lead guitarists and bass players, the final line up finally came in November 2011, when Lee Rapson joined on lead guitar followed by Dan Stagg on bass.

All four had been playing in different bands for over ten years, so when they eventually crossed paths and got into a practice room they hit the ground running.

Now they have a radio interview and a series of gigs behind them, plus gigs booked up till the end of the year and a growing fanbase., everything is continuing in the right direction…

And as we close out Joe and Luppy make fun of me for listening to Clif Ravescraft! We ask Pandora and GoToMeeting to sponsor the show, and I give a shout out to Tony from The 76th Street podcast for our first iTunes rating, do you listen via iTunes? Leave us a rating!

Lastly don’t forget we are supporting the Podcast Awards and we are shooting for a Stitcher Awards.

New Wax Podcast Listens to Various Hands & Rouzy Rouz

On this episode of New Wax…we learn that New Wax really is all about feelings!

Joe just went 2 rounds with Mike Tyson (not really but it sounds better than what really happened) and tries to do the show with 2 cracked ribs. We talk about Luppy and his vlog “Living Luppy,” where we learn about his (and Carl’s) weight loss.

And make sure to check out Joe’s new web site!

Than we cover the band “Various Hands.”   The are a band out of St. Louis, Missouri. Their music is catchy and appealing

and will make you want to move your body in a convulsive type of way that might otherwise be considered “dancing” while at the same time it touts uniqueness and fresh energy that is becoming a lost art in today’s industry. Various Hands combines an indie dance rock style of music with singer/guitarist Jeff Nations’ signature life-is-good lyric motif. Guitarist Zach Meier and drummer Ben Pitts round out a lineup of experienced, seasoned musicians. Their debut EP, This Party Will Be Fun., solidifies Various Hands’ feel-good message, upbeat rhythms and otherwise unorthodox views on what life (and music) should consist of and be recognized for these days.

We go on to cover Luppy’s release of “Fireworks,” which you can get in iTunes, or right here in the New Wax store.

After that we cover Rouzy Rouz  He released his first mixtape in July 2011 “Duty Calls” and received much recognition for his work and was signed under management with MTV’s very own Shawn Isaac. In less than a year Rouzy Rouzhad the opportunity to work with tophip hop artists, engineers, and producers in the industry and released his new hit single “Dance On Me”

I hope you like the show!

And a big shout out to 76th Street Podcast, for the awesome review in iTunes!

We are also proud sponsors of the Podcast Awards! Go vote for your favorit podcast today!!

When you hear the word “Mother,” what comes to mind? The word in itself is strong, forceful, and commanding, while bringing about a life giving, nurturing feeling. This group of four from the New York metropolitan area encompasses the above and much more. From the stage, Mother is in charge, much like in the household. The energy and confidence is what drives each performance of their heavy, groove-driven aural fix. Meanwhile, the songs will scoop you up by the hips and hold you in place searching for more once the last note settles.

Formed in the spring of 2011, these newborns have grown fast enough to fulfill the duties of their moniker in a very short time. Upon asking, the guys might tell you they met on E-Harmony, or in a Guatemalan jail cell. The truth: the perfect combination of being in the right place with the right people at the right time. Vocalist Nick Fargo and Bassist Johnny Bass had a previous musical relationship in the New Jersey based Zodiac. The dissolution of this group sparked an introduction to guitarist Mike Gowen, fresh off the bus in NYC eager to find a match. While attempting the combination of a second guitar player, drummer Anthony Sciasci migrated north on the Turnpike with a passion for the heavy grooves that drive the machine they call Mother.

Mother prides itself on its internal dissonance. Hence the name of their debut release, Dissonant Young. Upon meeting it was hard to get a feel for what road their sound would take. These fellas closed their eyes, and let it take over. A listener may be able to pick out bits and pieces of individual influences, but as a whole, this is something new. Taking hints from monsters like Sabbath and Zeppelin, passing it through the compositions of Queen or Muse, and surrounding it with bottom heavy reminders of Pantera and Soundgarden; these being just a few pieces of the sonic puzzle.  Tack on a well placed piano and a mixed vocal style marrying the likes of Layne Staley and Jeff Buckley, you are well on your way to a solution.

Reviewing Ill-literacy & King Kenoah!

This week on the New Wax Podcast Luppy fills us in on the stand-up comedy he has been doing (you can see more at www.youtube.com/luppy1). We talk about ill-iteracy and how he sounds like 90’s style hip-hop.

And I am pretty sure that Joe calls me old…who is he talking to??

Than we dive into King Kenoah. He is making that club music, what do the crew of New Wax think about that?

The few things that did come out of the conversation is that every song has to have a good hook, as well as a good web presences. Joe (who is pushing 30k followers on Twitter) talks about how important web sites and social media are for independent musicians.

We come up with our first t-shirt  “New Wax Podcast: Word to YOUR Mother,” and Joe professes Lil’John is his personal hero!

You can find all the guys from Ill-iteracy on twitter:

As for King KeNoah, he started his career in California at a young age. Not knowing how to produce or engineer at the time, his talent as a rapper granted him access to some of the local studios in his neighborhood. He quickly became known for his delivery and stinging rap style and his ability to connect with those in and out of the streets. This popularity made him known as the go to guy when other artists needed to cross over into the pop scene. His mass appeal to all sectors of society grew his fan-base exponentially.

Building on his rapping skills in the studio, he began to pay careful attention to the mix and mastering engineers; learning about EQ, compression, serial/parallel and mid-side buss processing, along with other studio techniques the fans are not privilege to. He developed his engineering skills and began to mix and master all of his own music, along with those of other artists. This created a more personal experience for him with his music and he began to write songs that involved some of the most personal aspects of his life for all to hear, love, and hate.

This new approach rejuvenated his career and caused energy to surge throughout his fan-base. He quickly developed some hard core, die hard fans throughout California. He continued building upon his skill set: rapping evolved into songwriting, learning visual communication through photography & videography, and engineering become producing and sound designing. At this crucial point when he picked up the craft of production and he took on the responsibility of making the melody and studying music theory did he become a musician, and not just a rapper. The industry quickly took notice and the executives began talking about this rising star.

This unique personal experience that his fans have with him through his music is currently unavailable in the music scene where 10,20, even 30 people maybe involved with the creation of the song, not including the promotion team. King KeNoah is directly involved in every step of the musical process, directs every decision that’s made, and processes every connection with the fans. His music is an extension of him and that is his gift to the world.

“We are born to make a difference, in our lives and those of others. Hopefully my music will make people question their beliefs and attitudes and begin to look at how to fix the problems we collectively experience. The youth are our future, but we, are the creators of theirs.”
